How to care for Philodendron hederaceum

Philodendron hederaceum is also called heartleaf philodendron, sweetheart plant or just philodendron. It is native to Central America and the Caribbean. They grow in humid tropical forests. Philodendron is clambering plant that can grow 3 to 6 meters. It has heart shaped leaves that are deep green color. Sometimes when the plant matures they flower white flowers.

Philodendron is very easy to grow in the home. They may need trimming but it's not necessary. If you want that your plant has bushy look then you will need to trim your philodendron.
They don't need direct sunlight, so you can place your plant in some dark corner of your home. In the growing period water your philodendron regularly, in the winter allow the top layer of the soil to dry, and then water. The soil should not ever be completely dry. They like a lot of moist, so spray them from time to time. Replant them when they have outgrown their pot.
Philodendron is known to be toxic for rats and mice. It is not sure if they are toxic to cats, so if you have a cat, put your philodendron somewhere out of reach. I have a cat and a philodendron, and I didn't have any problems so far.
