How to plant lemons from seed

Growing your own lemon tree is really easy. You can find many articles on how to plant a lemon on the internet, I will write about my experience growing lemon from seed.
For growing you own lemon, you only need a seed from one. You can plant seed from lemons that you bought in a supermarket.
Before you plant your lemon seeds you need to wash them in the water and let them dry. After washing you are ready for the first step in your process of planting a lemon. You should prepare the soil and a pot in which you want your lemon to grow. For start you don't need a large pot, you will replant your lemon once it starts to grow.
I planted several seeds in one small pot because I wanted to be sure that at least one lemon will grow. In the end, they all did. If the seed is healthy you can plant just one, lemon seeds sprout easily.
Once you prepared a pot with soil, I used soil mixture from the supermarket, you are ready for planting. Plant your seed 1 cm deep in a pot. Place your pot in a sunny place, and water it regularly. After two or three weeks your lemon will grow.

If you planted several seeds in one pot, and they all have grown, don't transplant them immediately, let them grow, you will figure out when they are ready for replanting.
In general, lemon is a low maintenance plant. It needs regular watering, in the summer every day, it likes to be in the moist soil. In the winter water it regularly, but not with so much water like in the summer. When the weather starts to be colder, bring your lemon inside. One more thing it likes is a lot of sunlight. If you have conditions, keep your lemon on a direct sunlight as much as you can. It can't get enough sun.
In right conditions, lemons grow fast. Lots of water and sun and you will get a tree in no time.
One more thing you should know, when you are growing your lemon from seed, it needs to be grafted, it will not bear fruit otherwise. You can graft your lemon once it is two years old, and it will start to bring you fresh lemons. Grafting is done with a branch from any citrus which bears fruit.
If your plant starts to lose it's leaves in the winter and you are doing everything right, don't worry, it is completely normal. You can wait until spring to prune it or you can do it right away. New leaves will start to grow soon. I pruned my lemon several times because I want it to grow like a bush. If you want for your tree to grow in heights, prune it's side branches, or don't prune it if it isn't necessary.
Hope you find this article helpful, and if you thought that planting a lemon is hard, I trust that I reassured you. Even if you don't get fruit immediately you will have an exotic fragrant plant that will brighten your home.
